Festival turned virtual, with international audience.
Nordic Kids Media Festival is a two-day event held yearly in the Swedish city of Malmö. However, due to the covid-19 pandemic, it was decided that in 2021, the festival would be reshaped into a virtual event for better accessibility. ‘Our visitors were very positive and saw our virtual world as an experience itself,’ says Pernilla Olsson at MINT – the festival’s producer. The 3D environment is designed and built by Wizitory.
– Many of the visitors found the content very relevant. At the same time, Wizitory’s digital platform made the experience accessible and easy to navigate. The visitors could attend over 40 seminars during the event and participate in various ‘sharing sessions.’ The virtual space was designed specifically for us at Nordic Kids Media Festival, and inspired by real-life locations, says Pernilla Olsson at MINT.
Nordic Kids Media Festival is a meeting place for public service producers who specialize in content for kids and young adults in Scandinavia – i.e., visitors representing public service radio and TV networks in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark. Historically, the event has been arranged every second year in Malmö – but since the covid-19 pandemic, the initiators decided that in 2021 the event would be digital. Furthermore, due to the event’s success, it is agreed that digital content may become a recurring element in the future as well.
– For 2023, we are looking into the possibilities of making the Nordic Kids Media Festival a hybrid event. Hopefully, we will be able to meet live – we would like to let our digital platform complement the possibility to reach a broader target audience while reducing travel, says Pernilla Olsson at Mint.
Increasing interest in virtual events
The festival’s digital environment is designed by us at Wizitory. We are a Swedish design studio and digital platform specializing in helping brands create their interactive Metaverse. Our platform is used to develop virtual environments in 3D, where companies can hold digital events, trade shows, exhibitions, and conferences – such as the Nordic Kids Media Festival.
– There is a growing interest in digital events. Still, it would be best to have something more than traditional webinars and live broadcasts to attract an audience. We, therefore, are specializing in creating 3D worlds that are both visually attractive while attaining the optimal user experience, says Mikael Stenberg, CEO at Wizitory.
